Edisto Beach 2010

Let’s start thinking about our next scout trip. This is going to be a good one!

We are headed to the beach September 26-28, 2014.  No sun tan lotion smeared all over you, no boring lounge chairs or towels on the crowded beach – nothing but nonstop action!

We will arrive Friday night to an exclusive campsite on Edisto Island.  Scouts in the past have nicknamed this trip the eat’n trip because we sure do a lot of it, and this year we are ramping it up another notch with the addition of ribs for Friday night dinner (looks like some dads have discovered our troop’s newest toy) and the troop will also add breakfast Saturday morning so all meals for the weekend will be covered except a lunch stop on the way home Sunday for which you should bring money.  After breakfast Saturday we will take the boats to a private boat ramp which gives us access to a pristine salt-water creek. This is where we will spend the day throwing the cast nets for bait and shrimp, fishing, crabbing, shell searching, and exploring. The creek leads to the mouth of the Atlantic Ocean. Here we will find our own private sand bar island. At this inlet near the ocean, the fishing is excellent so you may want to bring your gear!

Lunch will be provided and served on the island overlooking the ocean. We will set up the Troop grills and have a burger cook. Supper Saturday night will be no other than a low country feast. We will be serving a low country boil (shrimp, taters, corn, and sausage), fresh fried fish from the day’s catch and other lowcountry surprises.  Shrimp and grits will be on the menu Sunday morning before we pack up and go home.

Dads will need to get those boats out of the garage, dust them off, and tune them up!   We hope to have a huge turn out for the Low country Edisto Beach Trip.

Please register and submit the $40 fee per person by the September 23rd meeting.  Because this trip is water related first year scouts will need to be accompanied by a parent or assigned guardian.  All scouts are required to bring a Personal Flotation Device (PFD) marked with their name.  We will depart from the scout hut Friday at 4:00 and expect to return Sunday about 2:00.  Bring money for a lunch stop on Sunday.
