John T. E. Cribb Jr., a Spartanburg native, is a bestselling author whose work spans history and education. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout in December 1973. He is the son of John T. E. “Jack” Cribb Sr. and Katherine Warner Cribb.
Cribb studied literature at Vanderbilt University. During the Reagan administration he served at the Department of Justice, the Department of Education, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. He worked with former Secretary of Education William J. Bennett on The Book of Virtues, a #1 New York Times bestseller. He co-authored two more New York Times bestsellers: The American Patriot’s Almanac, with Bennett, and The Educated Child, with Bennett and Chester E. Finn Jr. He also co-edited The Human Odyssey, a three-volume world history text. He co-founded Bulletin Intelligence, a publisher of open-source intelligence briefings based in Reston, Virginia.
Cribb has written two novels about Abraham Lincoln, Old Abe and The Rail Splitter. His writing has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and the Chicago Tribune, among other publications.
Cribb lives in Spartanburg with his wife, Kirsten. He has served on the board of trustees of the Spartanburg County Public Libraries and on the boards of directors of the Spartanburg Philharmonic and the Hub City Writers Project.
