Requirements for Everyone Attending
The snorkel test happens at Sea Base, before boarding. Anyone who does not pass is sent home. The snorkel classes and the Crystal River weekend exist so nobody arrives unprepared for it.
- Registered with Troop 1 through Scouting America at my.scouting.org, with a background check for adults
- Current Scouting America membership card
- Scouting America Annual Health and Medical Record, with Part C completed by an MD, DO, PA, or NP
- Meets Scouting America height and weight requirements, not to exceed 295 lbs
- Copies of insurance cards
- Pre-Event Medical Screening Checklist, completed electronically before leaving for Florida
- Vessel waiver
- Sea Base snorkel test, completed before boarding the boat at Sea Base
- Minimum of two snorkel classes through the Scuba Shop
- Own snorkel gear — mask, fins, dry snorkel, bag
- All payments made by their due dates
Scout Requirements
- At least 12 years old
- Pass the Scouting America swim test
- Hold a boat leadership position
- Attend the Crystal River snorkel weekend, February 12–15, 2027
Adult Leader Requirements
- 21 years or older
- Pass the Scouting America swim test, completed through the Scuba Shop at snorkel class
- Safeguarding Youth Training
- Safety Afloat
- Safe Swim Defense
- Hazardous Weather Training
- CPR/AED certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association — minimum one adult per crew
- Wilderness First Aid certification — minimum one adult per crew
- Organizing boat youth leaders and their responsibilities
- Additional planning meetings for trip prep and boat readiness
Wilderness First Aid is a two-day course conducted by Scouting America. You must be registered with Scouting America and CPR/AED trained before taking it. Upcoming offerings:
