Richard Philips Gilliam is the son of Rick and Elizabeth Gilliam of Spartanburg. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout on November 11, 2008.
For his Eagle Scout service project, he built a footbridge at Glenn Springs Academy.
When he made Eagle, Richard was a student at Spartanburg High School. He played on the lacrosse team there and was active in the Tippers Club and Young Life. At the Church of the Advent, he belonged to the Senior High Youth Group and took part in the parish’s Pilgrimage to England.
