Harry Elliott DePass III was born in Spartanburg on January 23, 1935, the son of Harry DePass Jr. and Alice Chisolm Prioleau DePass. He joined Troop 1 and became an Eagle Scout on May 22, 1952.
Harry graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1953 and from the University of Virginia in 1958. He was commissioned in the United States Navy, served in Vietnam, and held the rank of Lieutenant. Following his naval service, he earned his CPA license and spent his career as an accountant with Lockheed Corporation, from which he retired.
DePass made his home in Riverside, California, where he died on September 30, 2012, at the age of 77. He was survived by his wife, Viola K. DePass; his sons, Harry E. DePass of Riverside and Christopher J. DePass of Denver, Colorado; and a grandson, Robbie. A memorial service was held on October 13, 2012, at All Saints Episcopal Church in Riverside.
