Dear Mom and Dad,

I’m so happy I’m at camp!  Today was so busy I may not be able to remember everything.

I slept really well last night.  I think everyone did since we were all so tired.  We wore our ultimate frisbee shirts today since the big game against the other troops was tonight.  I’ll tell you more about that later.

The Milk Song

The Milk Song

We had biscuits, sausage gravy, and cereal for breakfast.  I ate Raisin Bran with milk, too.  They biscuits were good, and I noticed that Joseph G. went back for seconds since he missed supper last night.  We sang the Milk Song after breakfast.  Everyone got to make a cow udder with their fingers during the song.

Merit badge classes were more fun today.  We tied lashings in Woodsmen.  I built a tripod that could hold up all kinds of stuff.  We started building a model teepee in Indian Lore.  I wish we could build the real thing like Mr. Lawton did when he was a boy scout!

Lots of older boys were shooting rifles, shotguns, and bows and arrows today.  I can’t wait to do that next year.  Aidan P. told me that his Personal Fitness teacher was “chill.”  Mr. Gage told me that Mr. Donnie (he teaches shooting) still talks about Thomas Niedelbock and what a good shooter he is.  I don’t think he’s pronouncing Thomas’ name correctly.

Lots of boys went on field trips today.  Thomas N., Henry M., and Chris J. went to the fish hatchery today for Citizenship in the Nation and Oceanography.  Dr. Hill had to drive a van full of boys.  Drew L. and Ligon C. told me that they went to the airport this afternoon for aviation merit badge.    They almost missed supper since they got back a little late.  It would have been ok if they did miss supper, because it wasn’t very good!

It was REALLY hot today.  If you wanted to send me a big package of ice, that would be great.

We had to clean up the dining hall this evening.  That was a lot of work, but every troop has to take a turn.  It was a little crazy with 50 boys trying to sweep at once.

Fingerprinting Merit Badge

Fingerprinting Merit Badge

All the fun started after supper.  I finished my fingerprinting merit badge in about 20 minutes.  That was the easiest merit badge ever!

As soon as fingerprinting was over, we started Sports Night.  Guess who won???  Troop 1 beat everybody in basketball and in ultimate frisbee.  That means that we get to play the counselors on Friday!  I heard they brought back an older counselor from the Navy this week just so that they can have a chance to beat us.

Ultimate Frisbee

Ultimate Frisbee

The frisbee match was awesome.  We played Troop 2 and we beat them 10-1.  Thomas N., Will N., Cole S., Tyler S., Ligon C., Will C., and Rob K. were our starters, but lots of other boys got to play.  Aidan P., Nate H., and Drew H. all got to play, and Ben F. even scored a point!

Everybody was super excited back at camp, and we can’t wait until the big game on Friday night.

I didn’t get any mail or any emails today… Mom and Dad, even the older boys got letters.  You can send me an email at [email protected].  I even heard that the FedEx man comes to Camp Ho Non Wah… so if you wanted to send me something awesome, that would be ok.  Ligon C. is sitting next to me while I write, and he said that he hasn’t heard anything at all from his parents!  He wanted me get somebody to tell them that his underarms are chaffing.

I need to get back to my card game under the pavilion.  Everyone is screaming and it sounds like they are having a lot of fun.  I’ll go to bed soon because I get to hike to the Charleston Tea Plantation tomorrow.

Love you,
Your son

PS – Our campsite doesn’t stink anymore now that the leaders fixed the pipe over the latrine.  Did you know that William Pitts got to get on the roof to fix that?

PPS  – Mr. Gage told us that Stephen F. is doing better at home but he won’t be coming back this week.  Please tell his parents that we all miss him and hope he feels better soon.

PPPS – No one got in trouble today.
