Hi Mom and Dad!
Today was so great that I am ready to sleep for days!
The rain finally stopped last night, and my stuff didn’t get wet at all. We got our t-shirts this morning and they are AWESOME! We sang the “Yeah Toast” song this morning at breakfast.
Troop 2 raised the flags this morning – lots of my friends got to help.
All the woodsmen took our five-mile hike to the Charleston Tea Plantation today. It was really hot and muggy, but I made it all the way.
We had lunch there (ham and cheese sandwiches and cookies) and then toured the tea processing plant. They even let us drink some peach tea. I was glad to be away from the dining hall because they had Sloppy Joe’s. Yuck!
On the way home, we stopped for a first-year photo at the Camp Ho Non Wah sign. That’s a tradition for the troop.
We got to skip an hour of our Woodsman class. That was great because I was tired after all that work!
This afternoon, I watched Timmy Sullivan and Brownlee Wakefield take their kayaking class. Chase Sposa was their teacher. I’m starting to think that I want to be a Camp Ho Non Wah counselor in a few years!
I went to the dock later where Ligon Chewning, DeHaven Dickerson, Bern Jungkind, Rob King, and Holden Sutton were taking small boat sailing. I heard the counselor tell Bern that he tied a great knot!
We had our best meal yet for supper – BBQ, cole slaw (I didn’t eat that), rolls, and banana pudding for dessert. Yum!!!
Right after supper, we went to the worship service. We sang some hymns and a counselor talked to us about the fact that scouting was about a lot more than just collecting lots of badges and patches.
The chapel was outside on the marsh… it was really pretty.
I could have gone to bed then, but the fun was just starting. Troop 1 won the basketball championship and their first ultimate frisbee game. Then we had to play Troop 2 for the championship and we won!
We’re back in the campsite now, and I’m going to sleep soon!
Sorry this letter was so long. I might have to put two stamps on the envelope!
Love you both,
Your son
