Troop 1 National High Adventure Florida Sea Base – Keys Adventure

Sunday, March 31, 2019 to Saturday, April 6, 2019

The 2019 lottery results are in for Florida Sea Base! Troop 1 has been selected for the Keys Adventure. We are super excited to be awarded 3 crews (6 scouts & 2 adults per crew = 24 total participants) for Spring Break 2019.

Sea Base Keys Adventure –The 7 day and 6 night adventure begins Sunday, March 31st and ends on Saturday, April 6, 2019. This is the week of Spring Break for the 2018-19 academic year.  Please note Troop 1 was NOT awarded any summer dates. The Keys Adventure program is a sampling of all the adventures Sea Base has to offer – snorkeling, a day long sailing cruise, fishing (in the gulf-stream, on a reef or a night of fishing for sharks), an overnighter on Big Munson Island (Sea Base’s primitive Island), kayaking, paddle boarding, and a day in Key West.  Every day is a new adventure. Scouts on this adventure bunk in the air conditioned dorms of the Brinton Environmental Center at Summerland Key (just north of Key West) with the exception of the overnighter on Big Munson. There is good information here in the 2019 Sea Base Brochure: http://www.bsaseabase.org/filestore/seabase/pdf/2019/2019FSBBrochure.pdf

Here are some links on YouTube from other troops from their Sea Base Keys Adventure to get you stoked:

Travel/Transportation – Approximately $400 to $450 per participant:

Fees for travel/transportation will be dependent upon final travel plan including the following: travel to airport (GSP or CLT), airline travel (airline TBA), possible hotel accommodations in FL on Saturday, March 30, amount of time spent touring on the way, and van rental or ground transportation to Sea Base are estimated at $400 to $450 per participant. Our goal is to keep these cost a minimal as possible. We are researching the best options and many airlines (including SW, Allegiant, etc.) that offer valuable fares don’t have flight information available at this time.  We will provide a payment schedule for transportation fees as soon as more information is available.

Scouts with a parent participating & attending the week with them at Sea Base that are planning to drive/provide their own travel arrangements must have their travel plans approved by Scout Leadership. There is a very short check in time on Sunday, March 31st and late arrivals can result in forfeiting their crew position and/or all fees paid to Sea Base.

Summer Job – Now is a great time to start looking for a summer job and set a goal of how much you want to make towards to your Sea Base Fees.  In addition, people are often willing to hire scouts for jobs (such a yard work, babysitting, etc.) if they know scouts are working toward a specific goal.

If you want to attend this this adventure and have concerns with the costs associated with the trip, please speak with Mr. Gage prior to Friday, March 15th to discuss details.

Count me in! How do I sign up? Use the form below to pay the $150 non-refundable deposit (High Adventure Funds can be applied).
