The Virginia Creeper Trail Mountain Biking camping trip at Damascus Va. is all set to go the weekend of March 27-29th. The Creeper Trail has been called the “Most Beautiful Rail-Trail in the USA”. Check it out at http://www.vacreepertrail.com The trail is 34 miles in length but to complete the Cycling Merit Badge, we will be riding the 34 miles from the top to Abington and backtracking the 16 miles to our campsite in Damascus. All scouts regardless of whether they plan to complete the cycling Merit Badge are encouraged to go on this trip. Plans are to meet at the scout hut at 3:30 PM in order to leave by 4:00 PM on Friday in the church busses. We expect to return to Spartanburg by 2 pm on Sunday. The cost will be $45.00 per person, and reservations should be made by March 24th. The $45 will cover Friday dinner on the way up, Sunday lunch on the return trip, camping accommodations, and the transportation fee to get rider and bike to the top of the mountain.

Bicycles are also available for rent for an additional $15.

Scouts will be responsible for supplying and preparing breakfast Saturday and Sunday, lunch  and dinner Saturday and snacks for the ride. All of the scout cooking equipment will be available. We will be car camping so you can plan accordingly. Each Scout should also make sure they have enough water for the ride, either with bottles or better yet a Camelback which can also carry your lunch.  All riders are required to wear a helmet.

The average high for Damascus at this time of year is 60 degrees and the average low is 33 degrees so make sure you have a couple of layers for the ride that you can then carry with you. Each rider should also have 1 extra tube for your specific bike and one patch kit (you can get these very inexpensively at a local shop or bring $10 and we can get them at the bike shop in Damascus before we leave)

Registration is closed.
