Charles L. Kendrick, III grew up in Spartanburg, a son of C. Leonard Kendrick, Jr. and Frances McNeill Bailey Kendrick. He became an Eagle Scout in October 1972 in Troop 1 at the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Spartanburg, SC, the troop’s 66th Eagle Scout, and received his award on November 6 at the Parents Night Court of Honor at the Advent. He was also elected to the Order of the Arrow. The Spartanburg Herald-Journal ran his portrait on December 2, 1972. His brother, James L. Kendrick, earned Eagle in Troop 1 in May 1976.
Kendrick studied at the College of William & Mary, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1982 and a Master of Education in 1995. His undergraduate and graduate papers are preserved at the university’s Special Collections Research Center.
