When you get bored this summer but aren’t quite ready for full-time schoolwork, there are three merit badges you may earn on your own. Worksheets you can print and complete are attached.
You can email the completed worksheets to Boyce Lawton or bring them to the first fall meeting.
Reading Merit Badge
The reading merit badge involves reading six books and keeping a log. You may be able to earn credit for books you are already reading for school. You must also spend four hours of volunteer work in a reading or library situation and fill out a form. Look on the internet at for a worksheet you can fill out and print. Where it says “discuss with your counselor,” please write on your worksheet your answers. Boyce or Tim must approve any books that are not on your school’s summer reading list.
Scholarship Merit Badge
The scholarship merit badge is also very easy to earn. It involves showing your final report card, reporting on a field trip and two interviews, a note from your principal or guidance counselor and a short essay. You must also have participated in an extracurricular activity or project.

Pets Merit Badge
The Pets merit badge is another great badge to complete during the summer caring for your “best friends”. You will be able to complete requirement 4 by bringing your “best friend” to our first scout meeting in the fall for a pet show.
