Dear Mom and Dad,
What a day! A boy from another troop dropped a trash can on his foot and broke his toe! Mr. Gage had to drive him to the hospital.
Breakfast was great. We had French Toast, sausage, and cereal for breakfast. Mr. Satterfield let me eat his marshmallow puff cereal and I gave him my Raisin Bran. Sarge (the chef) even cooked turkey bacon for Ben F. We sang the sausage song after breakfast – that’s my second favorite song after “Yeah, Toast.”
My classes were good today – but some of the boys got in trouble for misbehaving in cooking merit badge. Will N. is one of only two scouts in the radio merit badge – he got to talk to people in Mexico over the radio this morning.
Lunch wasn’t very good. We had some yucky ham on a hoagie roll. I didn’t touch the ham. I put peanut butter, jelly, and cheese, on my hoagie instead and I ate lots of chips. I didn’t eat many vegetables, but I did eat four pickle spears at lunch. Thomas N. told me that pickle juice will keep me from getting muscle cramps, so I might start eating more pickles at home!
This afternoon, Stephen F. fell out of his hammock and had to go to the hospital. He’s ok, but his parents took him home just to be safe.
I’ve spent most of my money already. I even had to ask Mr. Lawton for all the emergency money you gave him. He told me that today was only Monday, but I promised him that I really, really need it to get a present for someone.
The church van is also acting up, so Mr. Schwarz took the van to a mechanic. He and Mr. Satterfield bought a boat paddle to stir the Gatorade in our coolers. They used an axe handle today!
We played frisbee this afternoon before supper. I’m having a lot more fun this year since there is so much more room in our campsite. Some of my friends in Troop 2 even came over to play with us.
We had chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, rolls, and chocolate cupcakes for supper. Aidan P. said this is the best meal of the whole week, and I think he is right. We found out after supper that Joseph G. slept through the meal!
I need to be honest because I promised you I would always be like George Washington. Three of us had to be waiters all day today because we were climbing on the roof of our adirondack after we had been told not to get up there. I won’t do that again! It wasn’t so bad – especially since that meant more time in the air conditioned dining hall.
I played nine flags tonight with some of the other boys. I ran really hard. Some of the other boys made their arrows for archery in the dining hall after supper. They had to work for two hours!
The ultimate frisbee challenge with the other troops is tomorrow night. I’ll let you know how we do when I write. Troop 1 ALWAYS wins against the other troops.
Daddy, thank you for the letter and the email. I got a postcard from Grandma, too. I sure do feel better when I get to hear from you both.
I know you miss me, but I promise I’m having a great time.
Love you,
Your son
PS – I took a shower yesterday and I even remembered to brush my teeth once today.
