Dear Mom and Dad,
I’m having a great time at Camp Ho Non Wah! After the church service this morning, the big bus was on its way. “Shrek” – our driver from last year, was behind the wheel again, and we watched the movie Scout Camp on the way down.
Rush’s was prepared for us when we arrived in Lexington, and they managed to serve all of us fairly quickly. Of course, I had a milkshake with my lunch!
We made it to HNW much earlier this year, and we were among the first troops to check into camp. Mr. Harold checked my medical form and gave me a maroon wrist band to wear all week.
We set up camp right after we were cleared at the health lodge. I’m in an Adirondack with five other boys, but some of the boys are in Army tents with two people. Some of the older scouts are going to sleep under the pavilion in their hammocks.
Supper was great. I ate pork loin, mashed potatoes, green beans (like Grandma’s), a roll, and some chocolate pudding with crumbled cake in it for dessert. I was the waiter at my table, so I got to get the table ready up before everyone else arrived then cleaned up after everyone else left. James Mullen, our assistant senior patrol leader, is helping all the supper-waiters this year, so it wasn’t so such a bad job.
We’re back at camp now, and it is pretty dark. We have to go to bed by 11pm, but I don’t think I’ll make it that long. I’m excited to start my classes in the morning, and I’ve heard that breakfast is pretty good here! Mr. Gage should be coming by with our t-shirt for tomorrow before long.
Thanks for sending me, and don’t worry about me a bit. Not a single boy has been homesick yet!
Lots of love,
Your son
